Apologies for not getting back to you sooner to let you know the outcome but I have pondered your advice and researched.

As my PlusNet contract was due I contacted them and they again agreed the speed was not acceptable but the problem was at the exchange and so they would continue at the same price.
So I tentatively ask about fibre! I was told I would be passed onto the customer renewal but that I was to say….. this this and this to get a good deal as I was having to consider fibre through no fault of my own!
Initially they offered £15.99 per month for Broadband only and eventually we agreed £12 .99 (incl Anytime calls £7) broadband fixed for 18 months £5.99 per mth – that’s £2.99 more than current contract(Line Rental up front as its slightly cheaper)

I was a little dubious at first but after a week, today………….. I have reached the dizzy heights of download 38mbps and upload of 10.7mbps!!!!!!!!!! No doubt this will settle down over the next few days. Their minimum is 34mbps but should be around 38-40mbps on the basic fibre.

So a result!

Just to say many thanks to you as I had wondered the fault may have been here. It does pay for people to beat them down on price so I will shop around in 18mth time or remind them why I had to change!

Many thanks for dropping the invoice round. I sent it to Post Office Telecoms with a letter pointing out their inefficiency and misinformation, and they have refunded the £58 to me. Just thought you might like to know.

I cannot thank you enough for introducing us to the internet phone world and setting them up for us. I phoned a friend in London and she couldn’t get over the clarity and all the other things that come with it. She has asked me how to find someone like you who can do this for her. “Had a very crackly line. Rang BT and after about 20 minutes spoke to 2 very nice but completely useless call centre guys, who said the line was OK and I need to get it fixed my end. Rang Bill at XBT who came the next day. Turned out the line was faulty outside after all. Bill rang BT and spoke to them on my behalf and they agreed to send an engineer in 3 days time. More than happy to pay for his time as I was getting nowhere with BT and at least I knew I would not get lumped with their £130 call out fee. He also rearranged my filter and extension cable and my broadband speed almost doubled. Very happy…”

    1. Hi Nigel,

      If you mean protecting against Lightning, there is very little
      Will protect against it.
      Best thing to do when there is lightning around is to unplug
      Anything connected to the phone line.

    I am currently having problems with my phone/broadband socket. The phone doesn’t work with the socket I have to unplug broadband to get a dial tone. Bat have said it will cost £130 to get an engineer to repair the socket. How much do you charge!
